NASA announced that on June 15, 1987, Dr. John-David F. Bartoe began a 2-year appointment as Chief Scientist of the Space Station program, advising the Associate Administrator on program plans, policies, and user-related requirements. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Bartoe served with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in a variety of positions, most recently as Head of the Solar Spectroscopy section, Space Science Division. He expected to return to the NRL at the end of the Chief Scientist appointment. (NASA Release 87-103)
