The U.S.S.R. launched Cosmos 606 from Baykonur Cosmodrome into orbit with a 39 708-km (24 673.4-mi) apogee, .05-km (394.6-mi) perigee, 717.5-min period, and 62.7° inclination. (GSFC SSR, 11/30/73; Sov Aero, 1/7/74, 4)
NASA launched two Aerobee 170 sounding rockets from Woomera, Australia. The first carried a Univ. of Wisconsin galactic astronomy experiment. The second, launched two hours later, carried a California Institute of Technology astronomy experiment. Both rockets and instrumentation performed satisfactorily. (GSFC proj off)
