The media covered NASA comments on new discoveries about Venus, which appeared to have ongoing geological processes. Jeffrey J. Plaut, a NASA scientist, compared radar images taken by the Magellan spacecraft in November 1990 with those taken in July 1991. The images revealed what Stephen Saunders, the Magellan Project scientist, described as a "giant land-slide."
